A walk during August 2020

Updated: Aug 25, 2020

A brilliant day during the August lockdown showed Le Roys Bush at its best.

Photos (C) to LGS. Many thanks for permission to show them here.

Entering Le Roys from the Glade Place track, the track down to Dudding Park was closed - so we turned left up the valley.

The new board walk provides a step free walk from the Valley Road track up towards the Three Track Junction through a wetland of kiekie, carex, cabbage trees etc.

Further up the valley heading towards the waterfall, a trunk fallen across the stream has various epihpytes growing on it.

As the steps head up towards the waterfall, the canopy looks lush - well recovered from the summer drought.

The stream is flowing well even though there's been no recent rain.

The red tinged parataniwha below the ferns are said to have been brought into the gully by Edward Le Roy from family land elsewhere.

The view from the top of the waterfall shows a bit out of focus. Hard to believe that banded kokopu can climb up this waterfall.
